I know this will be a controversial topic. While I invest primarily in dividend stocks, with rising dividends for income, I also have a small amount (very small) of money in high risk stocks. I believe in diversification by assets and diversification by risk. I have used a little money, that it wouldn't hurt terribly to lose, in high risk stocks, which could have a big upside, albeit with unknown probability. Lately I have been looking at inexpensive shares of foreign money center banks listed on the NYSE, specifically in Ireland, Japan, and Britain:
AIB, Allied irish Banks, $3.51
BCS, Barclays PLC, $18.83
IRE, Gov Bank of Ireland, $7.49
LYG, Lloyds Banking Group, $3.55
MFG, Mizuho Financial Group, $3.92
NMR, Nomura Holdings, $7.59
RBS, Royal Bank ADS, $11.28
Disclosure: The author is long AIB.
